Westbury to Evenley

This is a lovely, long walk over some old cart tracks that ends in a beautiful village with a great pub for quenching your thirst! Park in the Westbury pub car park and walk down the high street. At the small triangle, take the right hand fork and walk down the hill towards the old mill. Keep going straight to the five-bar gate, go through this and follow the footpath sign across the field, bearing left. (NB. Make sure you shut the gate, as there are often cattle in this field). On the other side of this field you will find a concrete bridge over a very fast flowing stream - be sure to play 'pooh sticks' here and take a moment to look and listen for bird/wild life - it's a beautiful spot. Once over the bridge, go up the steep bank, cross over the disused railway line keep heading straight along the old cart track. You head up and then down the edge of the fields and eventually come to another small stream then along more disused railway track, under the bridge and you'll come out on a quiet country lane. Turn right, heading into the village of Mixbury. Past the old church and turn left. About 250 metres up on the right is another footpath, which starts at the edge of a garden. Follow this through the trees, over the stile and around the edge of a pony paddock. There are two more stiles bearing right and then you cross a large field, this time bearing left. Through this field, then another and you will join the Evenley - Mixbury road - a very quiet country lane. Turn left along the lane and walk for approximately 1 mile until you reach the village of Evenley and the Red Lion pub. Now sit back and enjoy the view of the village green - especially if the cricket is on!
