Queen Anne’s Ride, Windsor Great Park
County: Berkshire
Difficulty: Medium
Duration: 1 to 2 hours
Wheelchair Friendly: No
Set off from the carpark and follow the gently inclined grassy track uphill. This is where Queen Anne used to exercise on horseback, and if you keep your eyes peeled you could spot a Corgi or two! Watch out for polo ponies being exercised along the way, but if the weather is windy or wet underfoot (when it is closed to horses) you will have the walk to yourself. If you carry on right to the top, you will reach a wonderful copper statue of Elizabeth II on horseback, placed to commemorate her Golden Jubilee. And turn around to be rewarded with a spectacular view of Windsor Castle in the distance on your return (downhill) journey. This walk is not too wheelchair friendly, but the almost parallel "Long Walk" is tarmac and more accessible - just watch out for the deer and keep hounds on the lead!
