Hinksey park to South Hinksey village

County: Oxfordshire

Difficulty: Easy

Duration: 1 to 2 hours

Wheelchair Friendly: No

Start at Hinksey park, pass the lake and the pond, go under a small bridge and turn left to a big meadow with a stream passing by. Walk through a small forest and through a big open grass area and you will reach a natural reserve. The reserve consists of open grass and wooded shady areas with rabbits and squirrels. At the end of the reserve there is a Thames canal footpath, leading to Oxford if you take it straight or to open grass areas if you turn left. Following the footpath on the open grass areas (the path takes you back more or less to the same direction as the beginning of the walk), you will reach General Eliot, an old traditional pub, serving excellent food in a quite and tranquil garden. The pub owner is one of the friendliest, kindest and humorous I have ever known. It is a must!

Oxford City to South Hinksey

County: Oxfordshire

Difficulty: Easy

Duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Wheelchair Friendly: No

Start from Oxford Park and Ride at Redbridge (bottom of Abingdon Road, near the by-pass); turn left on old Abingdon Rd and walk over the railway bridge; you will see a footpath sign to the right. Continue across fields to South Hinksey, there are some good views of Oxford colleges. A pleasant walk, with some cows/horses. Great pub The General Elliott at South Hinksey - real ale, dogs welcome, good food. Can return same way or walk on another footpath back to Oxford City (Hinksey Park) and then back along Abingdon Road to the Redbridge Park and Ride. [Dogs will prefer to go back the way they came!]
